Why 1+1 Cares Franchise is a Uniquely Positioned Opportunity in the Healthcare Industry
1+1 Cares stands out as an unrivaled matchmaking platform that brings together premium- and elite-level service, skilled caregivers, and competitive rates (often 25% less than those offered by standard senior care agencies with their higher overhead).
By blending exceptional service, cutting-edge technology, and unwavering dedication to providing real solutions, we strive to create a win-win situation for both clients and caregivers.
Since 2007, our overarching mission has been to ensure that high-quality care is accessible and affordable to all those in need. This mission underpins all aspects of our work, from rigorously vetting caregivers to carefully matching them with families and seamlessly managing the coordination and logistics.
Now, we're looking for motivated, sales- and service-oriented professionals who, as qualified franchise owners, can serve as in-territory referral builders, to help us drive more clients to our established, service-minded network.
About Our Founders
In 2007, while caring for his grandmother, Matt Mukoyama recognized a vital need in his community - a resource that could offer specialized care for those in similar situations. This realization led him to start 1+1 Cares. Matt's academic background includes a BS in Accounting from California State University, Sacramento. Prior to founding 1+1 Cares, he contributed his expertise to Symantec as a Merger and Acquisitions Finance Manager. Matt's vision for 1+1 Cares was more than just founding a company; he aimed to create a family-oriented organization deeply invested in the community's wellbeing. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the care of loved ones, a sentiment that aligns closely with the company's ethos.
According to Ray, leaving his corporate job to co-found 1+1 Cares was an easy decision, borne out of his own challenges with finding proper senior care for his family. While his corporate job paid the bills, he wanted the emotional connection and personal satisfaction of delivering real, tangible benefits to seniors.
Ray graduated from UC Davis in Economics and Psychology and honed his business and leadership skills in the corporate world as a Senior Project Manager for Symantec. Driven by a passion to make a meaningful impact, he co-founded 1+1 Cares with Matt to revolutionize senior caregiving.
Our team's journey reflects many others', highlighting personal struggles that have fueled a drive for impactful change. Emphasizing quality and affordability in care, the company operates on the principle of strength in teamwork, supporting families in their quest for exceptional care.
Matt and Ray always wanted to have a larger impact on society; however, they felt that growing organically would not allow them to do so. Their franchise model facilitates providing more families with faster access to better care.
The information presented may have changed since first published. We recommend that you always verify fees, investment amounts and offers with the business opportunity directly prior to making a decision to invest.
1. What training and ongoing support do you provide?
You want to know what happens after you pay the initial fee. A strong franchisor provides comprehensive pre-opening training, site-selection help, operational playbooks, and continuous assistance with marketing, technology, and supply chains.
2. What is the total initial investment, and did actual startup costs match the estimates in Item 7 of the FDD?
The Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) lists estimated startup costs in Item 7, but real-world expenses can run higher. Asking how closely current owners tracked to these estimates reveals if you need extra working capital or if hidden fees exist.
3. How do royalties and local/national marketing fees impact profitability?
You need to understand ongoing financial obligations-such as monthly royalty percentages and ad fund contributions-and evaluate whether the brand value and support justify cutting into your profit margins.
4. What are the common challenges new franchisees face, and how do you help them overcome them?
Transparent franchisors will openly discuss real hurdles like local competition, tight labor markets, or supply chain bottlenecks, and show you the exact playbook or field support they offer to solve them as well as allowing you to speak with other franchisees.
5. How many franchise locations have closed or left the system in the past few years, and why?
High turnover, store closures, or quiet franchise exits are major red flags. This question measures system stability, territory health, and whether the corporate team addresses struggling owners or lets them fail.
